I wanted to read something with suspense and with some sexual tension as well. The blurb made me think I'd get that from the story. Not so much. While the technical skill of the writing was good, the story drew almost no emotion from me, nor engaged me much.I can accept instant attraction, but things moved much too fast between Conor and Alex. I expected to suspend disbelief since its a common trope for the gay detective to need a gay partner to be a couple undercover. It was also implied that Conor had to be a submissive, although there was little indication that it was a kink club. But refining their "act" for the undercover roles, became quite real on the very first day. Conor had to live with Alex, so the sex was immediate. Alex was supposed to be a Dom I guess, but it was just mild D/s. I suppose since Alex was unfamiliar with it that was appropriate. Things like ordering Conor to never leave the office, even for lunch, made little sense though. What was really odd was that Conor never questioned it, and although he was mouthy, he did just everything he was told, and had no real discussions with Alex about any of it. The sex was frequent and exhibited little passion or emotion.
There were several very police-like activities, however there was no real suspense, so when the predictable outcome occurred, I didn't even feel any surprise, nor did I feel real fear or concern from the characters. There really was little character building at all. It's not a series I will bother to continue with.

Rasputin’s Kiss feels like a good starting point for a series. It introduces us to what I guess are going to be the main characters of the series, Detective Inspector Alex Courtney and detective Conor Trethuan. The characters are interesting. There is quite an irony in Alex being a big softie behind his dominant alpha façade, and Conor being a kind of a rebellious submissive. Anyhow, I am not very much into BDSM, so I did not enjoy their relationship that much. As for the plot, there is a feeling of haste, the plot and the relationship rush forwards without enough building of the tension (specially the relationship. That was a fast one). All in all, the series is promising, I hope Alex and Conor are the main characters in the second book as well; I would love to see how these two evolve in their relationship.
I really enjoyed this book. It was my first book by this author & I would definitely read more based on this book. I love the relationship between the guys even though it was lightning fast. It was hot, sweet with a bit of intrigue. I will be looking for more in the series.
I wanted to give it one more star but found the ending almost predictable and too fast. It did introduce me into the BDSM world on a mild basis, I'm sure there is much more to it. I truly can't decide if I will continue with the series.
A lieutenant and his hand-picked “partner “ attempt a make believe S/M relationship to trap a sadistic serial killer. For the rest you will have to read this highly erotic yet tender story.
LM Somerton is an author I keep coming back to because her books are addicting. She brings you in with a fantastic story and steamy love scenes.... Even though the love scenes are pretty hot and heavy they don't over take the story taking place and she makes you want to know what is going to happen next.
Rasputin's Kiss was an interesting tale to read and go through, the conflict and fighting as well as the connection felt between Conor and Alex was great! I was a tad bit disappointed in the ending.. but will definitely read it again and look for the next in the series.
It starts great, having sex, humor, suspense. The suspense part is well done, and holding the reader till the end. The D/S relationship developed a little to quickly, and made the D-character look a little unprofessional. Anyways, the idea was great, the development more or less, the ending was good. I intend to read the others books from the collection.
Ultimately, this book was okay, but I didn't feel much chemistry between Alex and Conor. Alex was more annoying than dominant in his insistence that Conor stay at his desk and not even go out for lunch. He even went so far as to instruct the uniformed officers to stop him from leaving. That struck me as more childish than dom/sub roleplaying.
I had hoped that the killer would be scarier, more disturbing and less...lame. And stupid. What real life killer in that situation would kidnap someone that he KNOWS is a cop? I thought that hiring Conor to "pretend" to be Alex's boyfriend meant they would be undercover to draw the killer out. But they didn't even try to hide the fact that they're cops.
And it STILL drew the killer out? I wasn't sure I could buy that.
But I was invested enough to stay with the story until the end. The kidnap scene, and Alex's reaction to Conor's disappearance was well-written and suspenseful.
I wish the author had let the killer have more time with Conor in "the dungeon", but that's just me i'm kind of twisted.
I will read book two.
